Local Legends, Local Stages: How “814 Originals” Is Putting Centre County on the Map

Read the extensive article at StateCollege.com Last week’s premiere of 814 Originals at The State Theatre wasn’t just a celebration—it was a declaration. A declaration that original music is alive and thriving in Happy Valley, and that Centre County is home to a creative force worth spotlighting on a national stage.

A collaboration between Spaces In Between Productions and the Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance, 814 Originals launched with a packed house, a live concert, and the premiere of five stunningly produced music videos featuring some of the region’s most exciting acts: Caledonia, Chris Bell Duo, Hannah Bingman, Ma’aM, and Mellow Honey.

Each artist was captured performing original songs at beloved downtown venues—places that locals love and visitors need to discover. Whether it was Hannah Bingman’s soulful performance at Webster’s Bookstore Cafe, Mellow Honey’s explosive psych-rock at Manny’s, or Caledonia’s Americana stomp at Antifragile Brewing, each setting was chosen not just for sound, but for story.

With sound production by Spaces In Between’s Casey Walke and visuals from a talented team of local videographers, the series is more than just music—it’s a hyperlocal cultural showcase, designed to help audiences hear, see, and feel what makes Happy Valley’s scene so unique.

But 814 Originals isn’t stopping at the county line.

This pilot season is the foundation for a scalable model: one that can support music licensing, cultural tourism, and creative placemaking. With the EP now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major platforms, and download royalties going directly to the artists, 814 Originals proves that regional creativity can compete with national content—when it’s well-produced, community-driven, and shared strategically.

As interest grows for a second season, we’re exploring ways to expand this model through new partnerships, algorithms, and geofencing strategies—tools that will connect audiences to local music and live experiences with just a few taps.

“This is huge for our local scene,” said Ma’aM’s Tiger Cabus. We agree. And this is just the beginning.
