When people discover iNDiZA through Forget the Map, they usually hear the cinematic alternative rock side of the band. The soaring vocals, the road trip themes, the big riffs and emotional endings. But before Forget the Map, and after our acoustic and story-driven Discovering Earth EP, I found myself wanting to go somewhere completely different.

I wanted something with groove. Something cheeky. Something with a little swagger.
Funny enough, it started because I got access to some new drum plugins.
I use Reaper as our DAW, and I had just gotten access to Toontrack's "In the Pocket" EZX and one of their pop kits. I remember sitting there thinking, "These sound incredible." Before long I wasn't even writing songs, I was just making beats because I liked the sounds so much.
The first thing that came out of those sessions was "The Tracks. Then, maybe a day or two later, "The Vibe" happened. That one still makes me smile.
"The Vibe" started with a phrase I kept hearing in Eswatini

My wife and I have lived in Eswatini for years now, and there are certain phrases that I never remember hearing back in Oregon.
One of them is: "He's such a vibe." Or "This place is a vibe."
I was driving around thinking about that phrase and imagining someone who could choose to bring that energy with them instead of waiting for circumstances to create it.
That's where the chorus came from. "That's right, wherever I go, I bring the vibe."
I remember sitting at a café in Malkerns with the instrumental mostly finished, thinking about this character. Someone confident, maybe a little cheeky, but not arrogant. The kind of person who enjoys farmers markets, travel plans, good food, handmade clothes and life in general.
Main character energy, I guess. And I thought, that's kind of funny. Let's lean into it.
The title came from an Eswatini phrase that makes absolutely no sense
"Let me promise maybe."
I heard people say it here and it always made me laugh. It doesn't make any sense. You either promise you'll come or maybe you'll come, but somehow those two things coexist. It's an Eswatini oxymoron.
It felt like the perfect title for this collection of songs. Playful, quirky, confident, not trying too hard. Just comfortable being itself.
"If Everything Is Epic" became one of my favorite songs we've done
I was getting tired of social media. Not social media itself, but the pressure behind it. Every meal had to be epic. Every trip had to be epic. Every memory had to be life-changing.
And I remember writing that line: "If everything is epic, then nothing is."
That one stuck with me. Musically, it was also something I had never done before.
The verses use Toontrack's "In the Pocket" drum kit. They have this warm, vintage groove to them. But the whole song was built around that massive guitar riff.
I kept thinking, "That riff will hit harder if everything before it is smaller." So when the chorus comes in, BAM. The drums switch over to a huge hard rock kit.
Suddenly this vintage pop groove turns into something much heavier.
That's one of those production tricks that nobody notices unless you point it out, but it still changes how the whole song feels.
Amber absolutely nailed "The Tracks"
I had already written all the verses, but I intentionally left the chorus blank. That's one of the things I love about working with Amber. She hears melodies and harmonies differently than I do. So I basically handed her an empty canvas and said, "See what happens."
The confidence and personality that came through that chorus made the whole song work. That was one of those collaboration moments where the song became better because neither of us tried to control everything.
Yes, "Raised By Dogs" is about real dogs
Over the years, my wife and I have rescued quite a few dogs here in Eswatini. We currently have six. They're our security system. They're our buddies. They're family. They also drive us nuts sometimes. But they've enriched our lives in ways I never expected.
So "Raised By Dogs" is kind of a joke, but not really.
I think after enough years with dogs, some of their personalities rub off on you. Loyal, protective, food motivated, occasionally ridiculous.
Maybe that's all of us.
Why I think these songs work so well for sync licensing
When we started Spaces In Between Productions, one thing became obvious to us. A lot of music libraries have great music, but they don't always feel human or organic. They're efficient, searchable. But sometimes they don't feel lived in.
These songs do. And I started to hear where these songs could land and be useful for a music supervisor looking for something warm.
"The Tracks" feels like travel, wellness and lifestyle brands.
"The Vibe" practically begs for stylish commercials, streaming dramedies and creator content.
"Raised By Dogs" sounds like sports highlights and walk-up music.
"If Everything Is Epic" belongs in coming-of-age stories and campaigns pushing back against digital burnout.
"Get Up and Go" just makes me want to drive somewhere with the window down.
Maybe that's why I still love this EP. It doesn't take itself too seriously. It grooves, it smiles, and I wish more people heard it.
If you enjoy artists like Glass Animals, Gorillaz, Wolf Alice, Paramore, St. Vincent, Half Alive, 311, Jurassic 5, De La Soul, The Avalanches or Of Monsters and Men, I think you'll hear some familiar influences.
Hopefully you'll hear iNDiZA too. Because this EP was us discovering that sometimes a little swagger is good for you.
